HALF MOON, 2007, 20 X 20
Private Collection
Detail

In 1609 the explorer Henry Hudson landed on the American continent and explored the area that would become New York City.  Four hundred years later New Yorkers celebrated this event, and one of the ways they did was in a quilt show.  Half Moon pictures Hudson's boat, a three-master assigned to him by his sponsor, the Dutch East India Company.  Halve Maen is her name in Dutch.  Here she is, riding on the river that would bear Hudson's name, the New Jersey Palisades in the background.
