I make quilts for the wall (not the bed),  designed as pieces of art.  Sometimes  I'm asked why I sew pictures rather than paint them, and then I have to explain the special relationship I've always had with fabric. 

 

I grew up in a home where all the women - my mother, aunt, and sister - sewed.  Making a dress rather than buying it was the rule, not the exception.  There were plenty of fabric scraps for me to play with. 

 

I'm still playing with them.

Fabric, with its warmth and texture, invites me to be creative.  My imagination runs free and I lose track of time as I work out the design.
